For instance, the popular Bellamy Mansion Museum was built between 1859 and 1861. Its mixture of architectural styles has blended to create a beautiful landmark in the Wilmington Historic District. This complex, which includes three performance venues, has been in continuous operation since its opening in 1858. Wilmington also has a symphony, which hosts a series of classical performances throughout the year.

The Beauty of Wilmington
We really cannot discuss Wilmington without mentioning its beautiful gardens. Airlie Gardens in Wilmington is a 67-acre public garden that showcases the best blossoms in the South. Originally created by a local family in 1886, Airlie Gardens was later transformed by German landscape architect Rufolf Topel into the lush landscape we enjoy today.
In addition to azaleas, magnolias, and wisteria, the garden has a 500-year-old southern live oak. The picturesque Mount Lebanon Chapel, the oldest surviving church structure in New Hanover County, is also on the grounds.
Outside of Airlie Gardens, you’ll see flowers blooming throughout the area. Of course, Wilmington is known for its azaleas, but there is a wide variety of other flora native to the area. If you need ideas for your landscaping, visit the University of North Carolina Wilmington Arboretum. You’ll see majestic oaks and longleaf pines, as well as theme gardens and outdoor classrooms.
