At Legacy Homes by Bill Clark, we understand the investment that each homeowner considers when purchasing their new residence. We take that investment very thoughtfully, which is why we make the Energy Efficiency of each home a priority. Going above and beyond the stringent energy guidelines required by the North Carolina building code, Legacy Homes by Bill Clark has taken additional actions to save our homeowners' money each month.
Legacy Homes by Bill Clark has partnered with Duke Progress Energy in eligible communities to reduce the energy usage even further which allows those homes to qualify for an “energy usage guarantee.” Energy efficiency options will vary by home and community features.
A programmable thermostat enables each homeowner to set daily temperatures to suit everyday schedules. With multiple options to choose, owners can select “smart” thermostats that will determine their regular temperature habits and adjust automatically, some that are able to be controlled remotely, and others can be tied into a full home automation system for monitoring.
The primary source of heat that affects the temperature in your attic is the Sun. Radiant barrier roof decking is a sheathing that consists of an OSB panel with a heat-reflective foil laminated on one side. This sheathing can block up to 80 percent of the sun’s heat from to the attic. This can result in a temperature reduction of up to 30 degrees.
Low-E or Low-emissivity glass was designed to reduce the amount of ultraviolet and infrared light that enters your home. Low-E glass windows have a thin transparent coating that minimizes the light transfer and reduces heat. Not only do Low-E windows improve with energy savings, but they also provide additional protection for furniture, floors, artwork, and other items susceptible to fading from the sun.
Depending on the community's availability, Legacy Homes offers energy-efficient water heater options. Heat-pump water heaters use electricity to transfer heat from one source to another rather than generating heat directly like a conventional electric water heater. Tankless water heaters, also known as on-demand, only produce hot water when in use, thus eliminating the constant use of an energy source.
From kitchen faucets to bathroom fixtures, Legacy Homes has selected low flow options that are designed for maximum performance by consuming less water per each use. By reducing the output of each faucet and fixture, owners not only save on their water bill but also save energy due to limited hot water demand and usage.
Although cooking appliances are not applicable, all other appliances provided by Legacy Homes are Energy Star Certified. Energy Star is a government back certification designed to save homeowners money by producing appliances that use a minimum amount of energy to complete tasks, therefore, reducing greenhouse gases and other pollutants caused by the inefficient use of energy.
Though it may seem out of place in this category, our team at Legacy Homes believes that a smart, well-planned home is the perfect solution for energy savings. We maximize every square foot of our plans, designing homes that “live larger” than their numeric footprint. This ensures there is no wasted space in the home plan and prevents heating and cooling additional spaces while not in use.
